How many times have you heard "I just need to get motivated" come out of someone else's mouth, or even your own?
Whenever we feel unable to perform well, complete a task, or lack drive to start something, we always blame it on the lack of motivation.
As if motivation is a fuse that must be lit in order for us to do anything.
So where do we find this motivation when we feel like we don't have any?
You can't just whip it out of thin air, can you?
No, motivation doesn't just come from desperate lack.
Motivation is a choice and it's a habit, and it is something that we have to practice everyday.
For instance, I know people who have wanted to lose weight, but couldn't keep to a regular diet or gym routine.
To stay motivated, these people would print out picture of themselves and pictures of people's bodies they wanted to emulate, and hang them up in places where they would see them for "motivation".
This is not a terrible idea; it may even help a bit, but motivation is also a choice.
Instead of looking at something and dreaming for the future when you may or may not have it, do things that can inspire and motivate you right where you are at.
Take losing weight for instance - how about picking up a book and reading about why clean eating is so important, and learn how you body digests, and why the things you are eating on a daily basis may be killing you on the inside.
Choosing to stay motivated will not always prove to be easy, but the more you do it the easier it will become.
Also, ask yourself why you want motivation to do something.
If you seek motivation for an external gain, then you will never truly win.
External gain can be great, and there will be praise, promotions, raises, ect., but you won't be able to sustain that motivation.
Motivation must also stem from your own internal fascination.
What growth do you want to see within yourself?
Internal motivation is more genuine, and therefore easier to sustain, and you need to be able to sustain your motivation.
Success does not happen over night.
True success is a journey of wins and fails.
True motivation will be what helps you push through your mistakes and keep running towards your goals.
What are you reading, watching, and who are you spending most of your time with?
These things will affect your reasons for motivation.
If you hang around lazy people, then you can assure yourself motivation will be hard to find.
Surround yourself with people who choose to stay motivated by reading things that not only interest them, but increase their knowledge in an area that will help them succeed, or be more in touch with themselves.
Don't binge watch television shows.
There is a time a place to sit back and watch movies and have a great time, but if that is what you do every night after a long day at work, you will have a hard time staying motivated and you will dread your work days more and more.
Remember, motivation helps produce growth and results in your life, because it fuels you to keep striving and to seek more and more growth in your life.
Take a look at the things around you and see if they are producing or squashing your motivation.
Same thing goes for your daily routine.
